Fort Leavenworth - Set on stunning historic grounds, this operating Combined Arms Center trains some of the best military leaders in the nation. Take a tour of the national cemetery, the Memorial Chapel, and the Command and General Staff College. This venerable fort was first established in 1827 and has long enjoyed the distinction of being the longest operating Army fort west of the Mississippi. When you tour the fort, you can view the old cannons, take in the scenic vistas, and stop to view the more than 5,000 historic artifacts at the Frontier Army Museum. See uniforms, weapons, equipment, and articles owned by Abraham Lincoln, Lewis and Clark, and Brigadier General Henry Leavenworth. |

The Parker Carousel Museum

Parker Carousel Museum - In the early 1900s, Charles Wallace Parker founded a world-famous carousel factory in Leavenworth Kansas. Called "Carry-Us-Alls," these lively and colorful carousels became the staple of amusement parks around the world and across the country. This unusual museum holds several of Parker's carousels such as the Liberty Carousel, the 1913 model #118, and a 1950's-era carousel that was built by C.W.'s son Paul. Each of the carousel animals has been painstakingly refurbished, restored, and repainted. You can spot which horses were originally made in Leavenworth by looking for C.W.'s mark on the miniature horse shoes. You'll be amazed by the before-and-after pictures of these jaunty wooden horses! |
